School Sponsorship Project
Location
Batwa, Uganda
Our objective is to guarantee school access for Batwa children, giving to them and their families a better future.
Planning
The Batwa population lives in 10 communities located around the protected 'Bwindi National Forest'. With the exception of two villages, the remaining 8 are at an unfavorable distance for their population to send their children to schools in the town of Bwindi, where they can obtain a quality education. In their villages, school structures are present but teaching suffers from major problems related to the lack of qualified personnel and their frequent absenteeism. School education and literacy in this population therefore turns out to be very poor, which is one of the factors limiting their possible future chances of obtaining a better-paid job and escaping the so-called 'poverty trap'. Better education can allow access to jobs with higher wages, thus improving the socio-economic situation of these families, which in turn leads them to better health and nutritional status. With a development perspective, it is essential to focus on future generations, investing in the education of children, especially those from the most disadvantaged families. The strategies, based on scientific and operational evidence, that we have decided to implement are: (i) To guarantee access to quality school education for Batwa children and (ii) To provide for all expenses related to their education.
Expected Results
Our main objective in 2025-26 is to guarantee access to quality institutions for a greater number of children. Each school enrollment will guarantee attendance up to the secondary education level.
Results Achieved
Through the purchase of essential materials to be admitted to school (mattress, blanket, sheets, towels, uniform, shoes, backpack, books, notebooks and pens), and the payment of school fees, we have managed to enroll continuously since 2021 two Batwa children into the highg quality public school in the town of Bwindi.
