Uganda: Prevention of Infectious Diseases
Our objectives are to limit episodes of communicable diseases through health education, distribution and use of hygiene stations, soap and cloth masks, and to support families during lockdown through two food distributions.
Motivation
Born as the first project, immediately during the first Ugandan lockdown due to Covid-19, and based on scientific studies that demonstrated a high presence of transmissible and preventable diseases (due to lack of hygiene in general), we decided to distribute a hygiene station (container with tap) for handwashing, cloth masks and soap to all families, beside recurrent health education sessions. Additionally, we included in the activities the distribution of food rations to support them during difficult periods related to the loss of income sources during lockdown. Since then the distribution of soap still continues monthly within the 'seed bank' project.
Impact
- All families have received multiple health education sessions, as well as materials such as a hand washing hygiene station and washable cloth masks
- All families receive a monthly quota of soap
- All families received two monthly food rations to help them overcome the difficult moments of lockdown
